This was an experiment to see if I could do an oil in a single setting and I think I’ve done pretty well. I guess I will have to try the underpainting in acrylic next time. Still trying to work out how to get the whites totally white
Over the last week I have been playing with oil paints. I have only done one picture with them before and I had forgotten how much I love them and how they naturally match the way that I paint. I had also forgotten how long they dry, I mean seriously it’s Friday and the ones I did on Monday aren’t ready for another layer yet. That could be my fault for using too much medium as well to be fair.
As often when I’m painting Andy mentioned that he really likes the under painting as a style of finished painting. That’s what the lion above is and I would love your thoughts. He has the shape and form of where I am aiming to go but none of the detail. As an underpainting he is a lot darker than where he will end.
Andys comment got me thinking about daily painting in oils. Realistically they have to be looser as you can only do one layer in oils, it means I can produce more but does that mean I can sell more? Also the ultimate question of does it match my style and what feels authentically me?
Guess what I have no answers.
I am considering this evening doing an underpainting in acrylic and going over in oils this evening to see what happens
So why a green tiger, well it comes from a conversation about the colours people have on their palette which they love. Lime green and purples are not colours I would normally choose but I thought I would have a go at something different.
I have decided that I like the idea of bringing unexpected colours into the painting, just not the whole thing.
I was going to put this up for sale my my daughter has claimed it. There are a few tweaks I would like to do to it. So I think I will make a decision when those are done
I would love to hear what you think of it
I didn’t quite finish today’s daily painting, but this one and another will be done tomorrow… Honest. I got side tracked by a film.
I plan to start putting things up for sale regularly. When I’ve finalized which one I’m going for I will let you know but it is likely to be one which specializes in daily painting or etsy .. Maybe. Here and my Facebook will let you know
When I originally envisioned this image she was s curly blond, happy and getting her teddy out of a well stocked play room. The details originally were a lot finer and polished.
I have become increasingly aware of the needs of neglected children and what was once an image full of hope has become something much deeper and emotional. The strokes have become looser and an outlet for the feelings I have the image has become darker and whilst I haven’t pushed it as dark in context as I could have done, this is the image I needed to paint.
I’ve completed a bear on a bigger piece I’m doing. As its a mini work in a bigger piece I’m calling a daily painting. not the true definition but hey. I set it up really nicely to do a detailed bear as with my fur technique with the eye, but it just didn’t feel right. What I am creating over all in this image has a different feel, so he’s become more impressionistic… If that’s a word
During our Sunday worship I felt God talk about being a light house. The light houses survive storms and endure, but not only do they endure bit the stop others hitting the rocks in the darkest times. I felt there was also a promise that those in the lighthouse are the first to see the sunrise, to see its beauty, to appreciate the start of a new day.
I pray that I am at the start of a new day but even if I’m not I know I can stand firm as HE is my rock that I stand on
